Hoci model Caldina nebol oficiálne exportovaný mimo Japonska, jeho 4x4 pohon All-Trac a veľký objem batožinového priestoru z neho urobili populárny automobil v Austrálii, na Novom Zélande, v Rusku a v mnohých juhoamerických krajinách.
According to Toyota, the name "Caldina" is inspired by the Italian (and English) adjective "cardinal", meaning "essential" or "fundamental". [ 1 ]
The Caldina Van received another light facelift in August 1999, which is also when the naturally aspirated diesel was upgraded to a 2.2-litre version (the turbo-diesel was only ever available in the Caldina Wagon). [ 3 ] ABS brakes were made standard, while crash protection was improved. The 2-litre 3S-FE gasoline engine also became available in the Caldina Van, only in combination with the electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission (ECT) and four-wheel drive. [ 4 ]

The Caldina was a mid-size station wagon that Toyota had on offer in Japan from the early 90’s until the mid 00’s. Three generations have been sold (T190, T210 and T230), with the first (T190) and second (T210) generation being offered overseas under a different name as well, be it that the more unique and powerful versions were for the Japanese market only.
In November 1992 the T190 started sales as successor to the Carina Surf. Initially, three engine options were available, a 1.8 liter petrol, 2.0 liter diesel and 2.0 liter petrol. The 2.0 petrol could be had with four wheel drive. An interesting option was a two-tone color scheme. From February 1993 a new version called the Sky Canopy was available which had a raised roof and large panoramic roof. As such the height of the car was 85 mm higher.
First debuted in 1992, the Toyota Caldina was produced solely for the Japanese market. The Caldina is a 5-door wagon derivative of the Corona sedan. By 1997, Toyota had begun a second-generation, producing a 4WD variant known as the Active Sports GT as well as a 260 hp turbocharged model known as the GT-T. The third generation Caldina (2002-2007) offered three engine options, the most powerful of these was the 3S-GTE, a 2.0L turbo. Toyota discontinued production of the Caldina in 2007.
Of all the different automotive body styles and types, perhaps none is so “complete” as the humble (and now, sadly, increasingly endangered) station wagon.
Combining the best of car-like driving dynamics with the added space and practicality of an SUV/4×4, some of the best vehicles ever built have been wagons. From the likes of the Volvo 850R , to the fire-breathing Audi RS6, or the go-anywhere Subaru Outback, there is a strong argument to be made that almost every buyer is better of with a wagon than a modern style SUV/CUV (particularly if you like to drive).

Diese Fahrzeuge wurden auf Linkslenkung umgebaut.
